Eggless chick laid by hen in Sri Lanka

bizzzzzzz01A Sri Lanka hen has given birth to a chick without an egg, in a new twist on the age-old question of whether the chicken or the egg came first. Instead of passing out of the hen's body and being incubated outside, the egg was incubated in the hen for 21 days and then hatched inside the hen. The chick is fully formed and healthy, although the mother has died.

The government veterinary officer in the area said he had never seen anything like it before. PR Yapa, the chief veterinary officer of Welimada, where it took place, examined the hen's carcass. He found that the fertilised egg had developed within the hen's reproductive system, but stayed inside the hen's body until it hatched. A post-mortem conducted on the hen's body concluded that it died of internal wounds.

Ted Nugent fined $10K over 'crazy' hunting law

bizzzzzzz02More gun fun with the Motor City Madman. Ted Nugent has agreed to a $10,000 fine for illegally shooting and transporting a black bear in Alaska in 2009, according to a plea he signed with prosecutors there. In addition to the fine, Nugent will produce public service messages to air on his television program, Spirit of the Wild, be banned from hunting in Alaska or on any US Forest Service land for one year, and be placed on probation for two years.

The problem came on a hunting trip to Tongass National Forest in May 2009 when Nugent wounded one black bear with an arrow, then shot and killed a second bear four days later, exceeding his bear quota and making the second bear illegal. (All of it aired on TV.) Nugent's lawyer called the law "crazy" and said Nugent's arrow only "touched" the first bear, so lightly the bear did not leave a blood trail as it got away. He noted that Nugent has hunted in Alaska for years and was not aware of the new law, which is less than five years old.

Pair accused of having sex, smoking pot on swing outside Rock Hill City Hall

bizzzzzzz03A man and woman were charged with indecent exposure after police found them having sex on a swing and smoking pot at Rock Hill City Hall’s amphitheatre, just steps away from the public library, police station and a coin fountain. Police were called to City Hall at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday when dispatch reported two people smoking marijuana on the swing sets in City Hall’s courtyard, officials say. Authorities found Danielle Dewberry, 20, and Amin Jenkins, 39, both of Rock Hill, with their clothes pulled down, in the act of what a Rock Hill Police report calls “fornicating.”

Police arrested both, charging them for indecent exposure, while also finding .01 grams of marijuana in a grinder on Dewberry, according to the report. They were found in an area with four metal bench swings. The swings hang beneath a garden trellis of vines and leaves at the amphitheatre. City Hall’s rotunda overlooks the area, and visitors to the York County Library can see the swings from inside bathe building.

Elliot Worthy, library circulation manager, said he didn’t hear about the incident when it happened on Thursday, and he said no one complained. But on Friday, Carrie Land of Rock Hill was upset. “I just can’t believe someone has the guts to do that in broad daylight,” Land said.

Kitsap County mulling ordinance to fence in 'bikini barista' stands

Opponents of bikini barista stands in Kitsap County are taking an "out of sight, out of mind" approach to their problem by proposing an ordinance that would require tall fences around the stands. In Bremerton, the owner of two local bikini barista stands said he's willing to work with county officials, but only to an extent. Jerry Wilson says if residents truly wanted his businesses gone, they wouldn't buy their coffee from his stands.

"We've got enough customers that are voting with their dollars they spend everyday that say, 'We want this here,'" he said. But there's a group of vocal Kitsap County residents who've made it known that they don't support Wilson's two Espresso Gone Crazy stands. "That should be behind closed doors, and that is not behind closed doors," said John Phillips. Phillips gets his coffee at a more family-friendly stand across the street, and he want the county to do more to hide the bikini stand from his view. "There was a lady who was not really dressed, we'll say, and you could see her plain as day. I don't think it's appropriate," he said.

The county is now mulling an ordinance, called the Limited Apparel Business Ordinance, that would require higher fences or landscaping around the three espressos stands currently in business.  Wilson is concerned about how far the regulations will go. "There are certain people out there, they're not going to be happy until we're completely closed down," he said. "It's not about the screening for them or the signage; it's about 'We don't want you here.'" County officials say there have been no reports of lewd activity or crime around the stands, and wearing bikinis in public is not against the law.
