So it happened. After two years pressure and one election, Tony said, I’m stepping down! And everybody cheered! So what?

For the last ten years Tony Blair has changed the Labour Party so much that there is no return. Actually, the only thing that stayed the same was the name. 25 years ago the party had only one priority: build for the future. This meant investing in education, helping the unemployed and supporting the poor; a return to a state that takes care of its citizens, forgetting the dark times of Margaret Thatcher. That was the Labour Party! Today, in the same offices, there is another party, Tony’s party that fulfills only one priority: glorify me!

Tony BlairAll my life when somebody asks me to do something and I don’t want to upset them with a straight no, I say …we will see! Well, during the past year, Tony had to explain that he cannot give the exact day for the good of the nation. The government would be numb if they knew the exact day. Right, Tony, the whole nation is going to be numb if you retire on September 7th, 2007, but now they know that it might be the 7th but it also might be the 8th, the 9th or the 20th, so everybody is going to be in a jolly working hard mood.

Apart from making the UK the 51st star on the American flag, what’s your biggest success, Tony? That you made the Labour Party, to turn in practice everything they despise in theory. You ruined every single thing that people before you took so long to build. You damaged health far more that Maggie ever dreamt of. You destroyed education and you proved that the state can be arrogant and ignorant towards unemployment and immigration. Your monthly aim has been a photograph on plain T-shirt next to the other nightmare of international politics, George Bush.

Let’s say that you do keep your promise and next year you retire. For one year all the candidates are going to rip one another in pieces for the golden seat. Was that for the good of the nation as well or, in few words, how to demolish a party with a few centuries history?

Who is going to succeed you? During this time you have either put aside every single worthy candidate for the position or you pushed them into early retirement. Whoever is going to replace you is going to be a Tony-clone - an arrogant, selfish, petty politician.

Tony Blair reminds me in many senses of Tiberius, the Roman Emperor. He was chosen for the position because every other candidate was killed by either August or his wife Livia. After a long time as emperor and endlessly promising the return of democracy, despite killing every supporter of democracy, he chose Caligula as his successor. The reasoning behind the choice was simple: Caligula would be so bad it would show to the Romans what they missed and never appreciated. Is this your dream, Tony?

The sad reality about Tiberius was that he was mentioning retirement at every chance, just like Tony, and never revealing a specified date, just like Tony, so in the end he was killed by Caligula who just couldn’t wait any more! Is this your reality, Mr Blair?

I'm not sure why, but Blair always brings in mind Rolling Stones' songs. Sympathy for the devil?

I would say (Can't Get No) Satisfaction.
