The Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi has an amazing way always to attract Europe’s anger and doubts and I have to admit that for me he’s a very controversial persona worth a psychiatric study and I’m not saying that trying to be mean or bad but I actually feel that he would be really worth to study and understand his way of thinking.

For decades the man did everything possible to ager the Europeans and despite the forgiveness he has taken lately he has been for decades the protector of every single extremist and terrorist organization in Europe. The Italian Red Brigades, the German RAF and the Irish IRA had training camps in the Libyan desert and they were giving terrorists courses to whoever might had been interest. USA, UK, France and Germany had satellites constantly checking the country and desert while army headquarters where making invasion plans.

The same time Gaddafi was negotiating with Mitterrand, making angry Thatcher and having dinners with Spanish prime ministers. Was he good for his people, the Libyan people? I suppose this something remains to see. Back in 1980s there was a talk about the perfect Libyan medical and education system but then again there was a similar talk about the soviet health and education system till the fall of the wall and the truth coming out presenting a naked and seriously ill nation. Cuba is another example and even though people still talk about the Cuban medical system what difference a perfect medical system bring when you die from poverty?

Muammar Gaddafi tried to hard to establish a global revolutionary figure, secular far away from religions and their fanatics, protector of the poor and the wronged all around the world. Lately he found Mohammed and the values of a spiritual life. Surrounded from a group of macho Rambo-style women commandos he was preaching Italian women for the values of housewives’ live. And all that while holding hands with Berlusconi and calling him his personal friend. I suppose all these make him an interesting subject for a study but there is one thing you have to admit about him, he’s clever. And his last rascality is the best of all!

Europe’s worst problem the last two decades is uncontrolled immigration and on of the weakest points in the European boarders – especially after most of the former soviet democracies joined EU – is the Mediterranean sea. We are all familiar with the pictures of boats with hundreds of poor immigrants arriving in Italian, Spanish or Greek ports and we all have read about the dispirit effects of the governments to try to find a solution. So here comes Col Muammar Gaddafi who with one phrase he reminds us the picture; he actually said, before Europe becomes the black continent and with only 5 billion Euros a year …he will short out the problem! There was not …or what; in one phrase he had said everything! The amazing thing, Libya is definitely not one of the starting points for all these waves of immigrants in Africa but when it comes to Europe’s protection, Don Muammar is there to fulfil the job and the other amazing thing it was who he found to pass the message, Berlusconi! What a pair!

"Tomorrow Europe might no longer be European, and even black, as there are millions who want to come in," Gaddafi kept saying and he added to the picture, "We don't know if Europe will remain an advanced and united continent or if it will be destroyed, as happened with the barbarian invasions." Who can paint a better picture? And the solution comes from the smiling colonel “the EU should pay Libya at least 5bn Euros a year to stop illegal African immigration and avoid a "black Europe." You have to admit that this must be his best rascality, trying to sell ‘protection’ to a whole continent using illegal immigration from his continent as the bait!!!

When President Carter criticized the human rights record of Cuba, Fidel Castro opened its bursting jails and sent its criminal population, not its political prisoners, to Miami as illegal immigrants. That was one of the reasons why Carter lost his re-election bid. He took human rights a bit too seriously. There is a political lesson there to be pondered and it surely has not been lost on either G. or Berlusconi, for after all birds of a feather flock together and Italy is the birthplace of Machiavelli. Gaddafi has understood that it is one thing to pay lip service to the defense of human inalienable rights which accrue to all men no matter their race and nationality and ideology, and another thing to actually put that ideal into practice even at the expense of oil and trade concessions. Gaddafi, who indeed is a clever chap, must be also aware that there are right wing racists in Italy and the EU whose worst nightmare is a Europe invaded by the "barbarians" that take their faith seriously while Europeans go to soccer games on Sunday; a Europe that is no longer predominantly lily white. Indeed, it ought to be remembered that it takes two to tango.
