You know what, I was wondering why, why European elections have so few echo in the public opinion?
Citizens are called to join discussion forums, debates, rallies, to blog, to chat, to twitter, to shout « can you hear me Europe », even to send your message in the space, to address MEPs, which is I confess the same as to shout or to send your message in the space…, or even to tell Barroso (as God in the space…).
We talk about crisis, democracy, but nothing about the Lisbon treaty, the attendance of your MEP, because it is much more important to know how many times your MEP was sitting inside the European Parliament than to know what points of the program he had sold to you in the last election he really defended and no one comes to ask if your MEP was also present to you and how much his political involvement was transparent to you. We talk about the CAP, cows, Barroso, about Germany, France, rabbiting on about Berlusconi and his wife(s), the pirate party because the news is talking about ...
In short we talk about this and that, everything and anything, and ultimately this campaign has absolutely no meaning, is no more interesting than any other election campaign, even worse indeed, because in addition it is not even nationally and its outcome will have none, but none impact on the political landscape at home. So why should we waste our time?
Think you can topple Brown by inflicting a crushing defeat, or to vote anti-Sarko, anti-Merkel, anti xxx ... if the anti-Brown, anti-Sarko, anti-Merkel, anti-xxx voters mobilize on this election?
They don’t care at all for a member more or less in the European Parliament… However they know well, it will not be one or more MEPs from their party who will change the face of the European politics, it is not those members who will change the face of the national government. So why should they waste their time?
And I finish with the crowning touch: nobody speaks with you as voter, as European voter… Is there somewhere a European programme? Is somebody speaking about European future? Are there somewhere European candidates, I mean really “European” ones?
So, don't waste your time, vote for the only alternative, take a grip on Europe, take the power, nobody will give you the word to decide about your future and your Europe, make it yourself, be new-ropeans, vote with 130 millions of other newropeans for your democracy, your power: the citizens power in Europe.
So, don't waste your time, don't need to vote anti-national, anti-xxx, vote for the only alternative, take a grip on Europe, take the power, nobody will give you the word to decide about your future and your Europe, make it yourself, be new-ropeans, vote with 130 millions of other European voters for your democracy, your power: the citizens power to decide about our future, our Europe.
