I have learned that even though I am married, many women and men speak different languages. Even though we might say the same thing...it could have completely different meanings: i.e.,

When the statement is made by a man or a woman "I don't have anything to wear" it could mean,

For the Women "I need new clothing to wear"

For the Men, "I don't have anything clean to wear"

Who is right!? They both are.

Or then "Buy me some new clothes" and "wash mines" - more dramatic...

Transcending gender, in as much as it can be done, here is a bit of Stoic wisdom in the form of cognitive psychology, from a book titled "The Wisdom of Dr. Low" by Marilyn Schmitt:

"I want you to distinguish clearly and energetically between the event that happens in environment, either in outer environment or in inner environment, and the attitude which you take-not the event, but you. The attitude is yours. It is not of the event. And if you bungle, it's due to your attitude, and the attitude can be controlled, can be changed, can be improved. It can be omitted, it can be adopted, it can be manipulated. The event usually cannot." (p. 108)
