An imaginary continuation of this profound conversation in bed:

--Man: I'd say yes and no perhaps, if God is female, then you look like Her and therefore She exists!
--Woman: how cute, a female God! But I was under the impression that God is not a material being but a Spirit. How can I bear Her image?
--It is an inner spiritual likeness regarding attributes such as personality, mind, creativity, love, expressions of emotions, will, imagination, memory, moral responsibility. It has to do with the soul, not the sole of our feet.
--I see! But you just said that God is female.
--I said that She could be conceived as female since She is a spiritual being. It is our common humanity and creativity that points to our Creator in whose image we are made.
--Oh, I get it now. Our common creativity in bed results in little girls made of sugar and spice and everything nice, and little boys made of snips and snails and puppy dog tails?
--Something like that. Let’s end this profound intellectual argument better dealt with in a library, and let’s get creative the way we know best!
--You are right, unlike God we cannot think and create at the same time. Let’s get busy.

The feet are cute one must admit, equally true is Adrian Piper position on art in her famous essay “Performance and the Fetishism of Art Objects” where she points out that the misguided nature of the artistic process nowadays is to call attention to the uniqueness of the work of art, especially one’s own. But as Heidegger asserts in “Being and Time” all objects, if one thinks about it, are unique. Perhaps C.S. Lewis has it more on target when he points out in one of his works that one learns much more from people’s conversations than from the way they look, of from the way their feet look, for that matter. What did Socrates say to his interlocutors?—“Speak that I may know Thee.” Piper, Heidegger, Lewis, Socrates; intellectual idols to be questioned? Perhaps they should and they’d be the first ones to point that philosophy is at bottom a conversation and a dialogue, to make it a fetish is to make it an idol too.
