Hamdan Mg Kyaw Naing, the Secretary General of The Union of Rohingya Communities in Europe (URCE) has highly appreciated the efforts of the Rohingya human rights activists in Malaysia. He also thanked the organizers and participants of the demonstration held on April 18.2008 in front of the Royal Embassy of Thailand and the Burmese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to protest against the recent statement of the Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej to relocate the entire Rohingya refugee community to a deserted island in Thailand and also to protest the undemocratic constitution of the Burmese military rulers which is going to be put for approval in a sham referendum in May 10.2008 respectively. Expressing solidarity with the peaceful demonstration program, Mr Hamdan Mg Kyaw Naing who is the son of the Rohingya parliamentarian U Kyaw Min has also appealed to the Thai Prime Minister to halt his decision to banish the Rohingyas in an isolated island. He also called upon the international community to take effective measures to compel the Burmese military regime to listen to the outcries of the oppressed people of Burma and to pave the way for the restoration of democracy and human rights in Burma. It may be mentioned here that U Kyaw Min is the only parliamentarian among the whole Rohingya community who has been imprisoned for 47 years and now he is languishing in prison in Burma together with his wife, two daughters and one son who have also been imprisoned for 17 years term respectively. He is also a Member of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's CRPP (Committee Representing the People's Parliament) and is the only Rohingya leader about whom the The National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB) which is serving as a government in exile with its headquarters in Washington D.C. has officially expressed their concern. The URCE Secretary General said, the Rohingya Muslims are a peace loving ethnic community and there is no single evidence of any wrongs or crime that the Rohingyas have ever done in Thailand for which the Thai Prime Minister has decided to banish the Rohingyas to a deserted island. Everyday, the Rohingyas are fleeing their motherland together with other distressed people of Burma to neighbouring countries in search of safety and food, resorting all available travelling means which are highly vulnerable and full of risks of life and death. Many have perished on their way to Thailand and Malaysia. The URCE Secretary General urged the Rohingya human rights activists particularly the Rohingya youth leader Mr Mohammad Sadek, Mr. Habibur Rahman, Mr. Zafar Ahmed and Aung Kyaw Moe to continue their efforts for the restoration of democracy in Burma and restoration of human rights of Rohingyas shoulder in shoulder with other democratic forces of Burma and Rohingyas.
