This year’s annual Ylen Hyvä (Yle Helps) campaign will introduce Red Nose Day into Finland. On Red Nose Day, everybody is invited to join in and help children in developing countries. People wearing red noses will collect money for a good cause by arranging fun events.

Finland’s first Red Nose Day takes place late in October 2007 and will culminate in a live broadcast by YLE TV2. This broadcast, nearly six hours long, will screen a never-before-seen package of entertainment by top names in music and comedy, along with moving stories about projects funded by Ylen Hyvä.

The symbol of Red Nose Day is a plastic red nose. In Britain, Red Nose Day, which was launched over 20 years ago as part of the Comic Relief programme, is immensely popular. On this day, people wear red noses and come together to invent fun ways of collecting money to help those in need. The performances are original, and sometimes bizarre, but always entertaining. With the launch of Red Nose Day in Finland, Ylen Hyvä now offers Finns new and fun ways to help others.

The Helsinki Finnish-British Society, a friendship society and language school of over 80 year's standing, has picked up this gauntlet and is arranging its own Red Nose Day ”OlympiX” event in Narinkkatori (Kamppi main entrance), on Sunday, 7 October, 1pm -3pm. YLE will film the FINNBRIT event, and excerpts will be shown on YLE TV2’s Red Nose Day fund-raising programme on 26.10.07.

FINNBRIT’s Red Nose Day is a fun event for the whole family, with activities such as the three-legged race, the egg-and-spoon race, and ”Whack the Rat”. There’s even a tea-tasting competition. Come and have a go – and contribute to a worthy cause, the Ylen Hyvä Red Nose Day collection.

There are many ways you can help. Best of all show up at our event. We also welcome donations from both companies and private individuals to pay, for example, for marquees, equipment, prizes, transportation for our event in case if it rains.

Come along to the FINNBRIT ”OlympiX” in Narinkkatori, Kamppi, on Sunday, 7th October, and test your skills in a three-legged race and other games!
