cool it down before it soars
above the tranquil sea of norm
investigate its mortal gall
to see inside a forlorn storm

cool it down this lofty soul
cool it down before it falls
cool it down before it's so
cool it down before
cool it down
cool it
cool
...

To complement Frost's thought on the cover, poetry is what is left in a whole human being when he/she has finished calculating and rationalizing, for it expressed the ineffable and the sublime and our very humanity.

The concept that mathematics and art are mutually exclusive betrays a profound ignorance of both.

Reminds me of Eskimo Blue Day by Jefferson Airplane

Sir, look carefully at Da Vinci's Last Supper and it may begin to dawn on you that indeed they are not mutually exclusive and if that notion has been expressed in this forum it was from some voice in your head; those you spoke about sometime ago.

Poetry is vastly subject, which I believe makes it the "wild card" of the immagination. No two people on earth would receive it exactly the same...and that is exactly the point!

Jack2007-10-27 22:18:14
Note to readers. I meant to say was poetry is "vastly subjective" or interpretative or immaginative.

My apologies.

Emanuel Paparella2007-10-27 22:36:05
Indeed, Jack, I concurr with your observations. The poetical is the quintessentially human and hence cannot be but subjective vis a vis Man. To reduce it to the scientific and the rational and the objective devoid of imagination and feelings is to destroy it. To use poetry for political-ideological propaganda is to be a mediocre poet at best or a mere versifier. Just as our humanity which is the bearer of freedom, it can be understood (because other humans created it) but not objectively explained.
