A man better known as the manager of a porno-star, after mysteriously funded creates a media mini-empire, he manages to cheat huge amounts of money from the government in the form of coronavirus-stricken business assistance, somehow manages to push a labour-minister’s lay off and bafflingly enforces the police to give him 24/7 full police protection, from a terrorist organization that doesn’t exist since early 2000 and the arrest of all members.
That was yesterday’s scandal in Greece. Today’s scandal is an undersecretary who gives – again - another huge amount of money to a company without any kind of transparency or proof of expertise in the subject while the culture minister for the first time in 2.5 millennia decides to dedicate a honours placket on Acropolis with her name. In the meantime 8.500 people have died in a destroyed by the government national health system laying off doctors while in a pandemic.
And if in any democratic country of the world all that would mean the end of the government and most likely damage for the party that would drown it for years to come, in Greece is Tuesday as usual.
Whilst all this is daily life in Greece the economy is nearly reaching the dark days of 2009 for exactly the same reasons Greece bankrupted, corruption, corruption, corruption. A gang of populists far-right xenophobic and homophobic conmen are ruling Greece emptying the state funds and EU subsidies. Just like before 2009, just like it happened for decades before the 2009 bankruptcy. But this time there is a new element. While previous populist conmen needed decades to empty the treasury, Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis took only twenty month and counting.
Back in 2009 and despite many doubts, everybody including most EU member states decided to help the bankrupt country and they did so enforcing dramatic memorandums that devastated Greeks. This time it will be only doubts since and despite the knowledge of who they were voting, Greeks elected one of the most corrupted politicians as Prime Minister and the man who would lead them out of the crisis.
There is a saying in Greece, a bit twisted here: doesn’t matter how many times you bath the corrupted, the corruption remains untouchable. And that’s Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis true. Doesn’t matter how he fixes his image bribing media, doesn’t matter all the lies and manipulations he is a corrupted conman who lead Greece fast under the cliff of the most devastating bankruptcy of the Greek modern history.
And you know what? This time there will be no excuses. Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis didn’t con them, they voted for him!
