For Greece the 25th of March 2021 marks 200 years of independence; 200 years since the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman Empire that led to the rebirth of a nation after 400 years occupation. It also marks over a year occupation from a corrupted and authoritarian regime that slays democracy in its birthplace. 

And while Prime Minister, Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis is going to an odd party cheering z-list guest-celebrities like the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles of Wales and the Russian puppet Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishustin, more Greeks will die in overwhelmed and underfunded hospitals, the press will suffer more censoring, the citizens more police brutality, the public treasury more looters.

Sadly this is the reality of Greece, exactly 200 years after liberation from a brutal and corrupted occupant to fall in the hands of a brutal and corrupted regime which even though elected democratically a year later has all the signs of and undemocratic and authoritarian tyranny staffed with corrupted populist and far-right crooks.

Alike many other authoritarian regimes all around the world, the pandemic gave Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis the chance and the opportunities to unmask his real face and intentions forcing undemocratic and authoritarian rules over a nation in fear. In an absolutely Trumpian way, Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis saw himself plaguily above the law and the rules – even the ones he personally applied for the people - while forcing laws and using the police as his private mercenaries targeting any opposition voice in the country.

Actually this is the only thing Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis has done without prejudice; hunt anybody who doubts and challenges his …holiness, since his followers apparently see him as a contemporary …messiah and Moses! A cult figure, again in the most Trumpian way.

The same way Recep Tayyip Erdoğan rules Turkey, the same way Viktor Orbán rules Hungary and the same way Vladimir Putin rules Russia. Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis is exactly in the same club.

200 years after the Greek Independence from the brutal and corrupted Ottoman Empire Greece is enslaved to a brutal and corrupted regime led by Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis.

* It is noticeable that while Greek national health system seriously suffers lack of personnel and funding, while the government fires doctor and nurses that expresses their dismay and anger Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis buys new police cars and hires over 10,000 policemen.

* While in other countries all round the world governments try to help people with debts in Greece the responsible minister calls debt collectors to do their …job!

* While in most democratic countries when there are incidents of police brutality, the state starts an investigation in Greece police people sue journalists and newspapers because they published articles against police brutality.

* Kyriakos ‘Koulis’ Mitsotakis biggest worry at the moment is that he doesn’t take …“likes” in Facebook!
