The leaves fall And I can hear them Whisper to me, A legion of voices Swirling in the breeze Over the swaying trees Down the streets And boulevards Scraping, whispering.
Enchanting me With their green Siren song and Singing of the Earth's lament; I wash my face in The bowl and look Out of the window And up to the sky And I can see a crack In the deep blue; I can see the light Streaming through Falling onto the earth.
The golden light Washed my closed Eyelids and smiling face, Bathing the whole human race In transcendent joy.
The leaves fall And I can hear them Whisper to me, A legion of voices Swirling in the breeze Over the swaying trees Down the streets And boulevards scraping, Whispering seductively: "Come sing, dance with us, Abandon your ways, Play with us, Sing and let us nourish Your soul in our cool streams And fertile valleys, Come back to us, Come back to us..."
Yet I lived Like a lotus eater, Drank my scotch And munched my Sweet lotus food; Carefree and numbed Into a languid mellifluous Narcotic apathy forgetting About a return.
We all lived this way, Numbed and mechanical Forgetting about the earth And her green siren song; For we became lotus eaters And listened to the Leaves no more.
Our forgetfulness Dooming our very Existence.
