First Arab Artists’ exhibition in Helsinki
By Noora Peltomaa

That was the title of the exhibition that I attended yesterday, it was greatly arranged with beautiful works shown for the first time in Helsinki. It was a great personal pleasure to be among this group of artists and enjoy the show together with them.

EUMAN gallery in Helsinki’s Cable Factory, one of the biggest cultural centres in the Nordic countries and hosts this exhibition from the 7th till the 20th of December, 2018. An opportunity to ordinary Finns to see art we are not use to see. Amazingly excited to me to see some images so different from our art, what we are used to see and I really hope to see more of this art.

23 artists, most of them from Egypt, the country that we mainly know through the Pyramids, the river Nile and the stories of the Bible. These artists showed us the life of Egypt and the Egyptian in so many different ways; the countryside life, the civil life and the modern life, that none before the EU-MAN gallery had had offered us this opportunity.

Three artists were from Palestine. They shown us through contemporary art the life they live and the work they deal with. Wonderful in a different perspective and experiences.

Two Iraqi artists, resides here in Helsinki, were also present in the show. Their works where good; expressing their experience of war and what their country has suffer from war the last 40 years at least.

I was totally taken by the Egyptian artists who literally let me enjoy their art and invited me in an indirect way to visit Egypt in the near future.
