Trump's Old Deal

In 1933, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt enacted a series of reforms, mainly financial, in respond to an America coming out of the Great Depression and social polarization. A relief from the literally hungry work class and realignment to the humanitarian character of a democratic state.

That to oppose a far-right isolationist, often racist, definitely anti-Semitic, unequal and misogynist opposition that even supported Hitler. Roosevelt’s opposition included the mighty J. Edgar Hoover, the ultra conservative founder of FBI among others that often even boycotted his presidency but he also had the support of some exceptional Republicans who could see that the Republican Party was falling into fascism, away from its traditional conservatism, including Senators George W. Norris, Hiram Johnson, and Robert La Follette Jr.

Roosevelt’s New Deal remains till today the GOP’s nightmare from the past even though they selectively forget that their opposition was attached to Hitler. Roosevelt won, the New Deal won and one of the most obvious consequences was the defeat of Nazism in Europe.

deal0000_400And then came Donald Trump. This grotesque Hitlerian caricature, with his closet racism and misogyny who tries to enforce an authoritarian regime over the Unite States of America. Trump is not here to dissolve Obama’s legacy; this is the surface. Trump is here to destroy the blue print of a contemporary democratic nation established by Franklin D. Roosevelt and the New Deal. Donald Trump is here to “correct” what happened in 1933 with the New Deal and his negative or absent attitude during his visit to France for the Armistice Commemorations is a subconscious denial to the victors. The man is standing in the wrong side of history and he wants to change it. He wants to rewrite history.

Emmanuel Macron, the French President, on his speech for the 100th anniversary of the Great War, said: “old demons coming back to wreak chaos and death” while chaos and death was standing next to him. In his two-year presidency the victims of his hate preaching count already to hundreds in USA. Racism, prejudice, anti-Semitism, misogyny is the Trump’s Old Deal.

The midterm’s result was a reaction but obviously not enough. Winning the House of the Representatives is not a victory while Trump holds the Congress and the Supreme Court hostages. And is also not an answer the motto “when they go low we are going high.” They cannot go any lower and there is no high enough while their low and the democrats high looks like they are from different planets, from different dimension and they don’t meet. Proof? A big amount of women, educated women still vote Trumpism. There are a lot of educated people in USA who believe that in front of a personal economic prosperity you can sacrifice a society. And there is nothing republican or democratic about it, there is only unethical.

The midterm’s blue wave is not enough to stop Donald Trump and his cronies in the US administration. Is not enough to stop the domino effect among fascist and Nazi representatives of him in Europe is not enough to stop fascism globally and it spreads like a disease.

What happened last week when the Nigerian army used Trump speech as an excuse and alibi for murdering 25 students is unbelievable and shows how far Trumpism has come globally. The fact that murderer dictators like Rodrigo Duterte, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin consider him a model and a friend is insulting to any democrat, further more it should be insulting to any human.

Still, is not.

Donald Trump continues to enjoy the support of the white middle ask (don’t ask why the white), the rural rednecks and part of the work class, just like Hitler did back in Germany in 1933!

Beto O'Rourke and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are not enough; America needs more Beto O'Rourke and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, American needs a New Deal.
