The Haunted Bay
Lights dimmed in The haunted bay The new Pompeii; Flowing blood, Glowing blood,
Hot lava weeping Under a burnt siena sky On rugged rocks, seeping Into the grass entombing Fleeting flashing smiles And green mosaic tiles.
Blue veins, Bulging veins, Bursting veins, Noble veins; Throbbing coursing, The tick-tock Of broken clocks.
The beating drums, The gloomy slums, The scattered breadcrumbs On tables, and climbers Growing around cracked Marble columns with their Scrolls and hyacinth leaves, The snapping cables; Captured by linseed and Bristling sables.
The shaking Death throes Of Kane and Abel, Of golden fables; I can see it all Now flashing Before my eyes.
Flashing, flying Between her thighs And darkened eyes; The crumbling cement And twisted steel, the Tendrilled smoke Rising like a paean Wrapping around Our fleeting days And solemn ways.
As the lights Dimmed in The haunted bay The new Pompeii; Flowing blood, Glowing blood; Hot lava weeping Under a burnt siena sky On rugged rocks, seeping Into the grass entombing Fleeting flashing smiles And green mosaic tiles.
They had Lived and loved The golden days And noble ways; Yet now encased In rosebud tears And captured years Frozen in time In hardened rock.
The scudding clouds Strumming the sky Like a weeping guitar, An elegiac lament For the new Pompeii, The haunted bay.
