Lift conversations, a nymphomaniac ant, a bird wearing an inflatable ring, two talking graves, a family of worms, a nasty prejudiced individual, a virginal dinosaur, an arrogant rooster and a couple contemplating the meaning of life from his bed all come to life in Ovi magazine’s eclectic Cartoon section.

Ever since our very first issue two years ago, we have regularly published cartoon series, which have all been originally created by members of the creative Ovi team. We would like to take this opportunity to invite all budding cartoonists looking for a platform to promote their work to contact us and we can discuss how we may be able to help one another.

However, it is currently Thanos and Asa who are responsible for the majority of the current offerings, with Asa writing the words and Thanos breathing life into the characters. Below are some brief introductions to each of the series, but we recommend you just see them for yourself.

NEW 'Lift Spirit' is our latest addition to the Cartoon section and it has been inspired by our own conversations with neighbours both past and present. I'm sure the strip will have its, oh dear, ups and downs, but it will surely, oh no, press all the right buttons.

NEW 'The Ovi Times' is, as Thanos says, everywhere. It's in the news, you just haven't seen it ...our way yet! As you have come to expect with Thanos and Ovi, it is a twist on world events that occasionally pushes the boundaries of good taste. Be warned!

‘Show Bizz’ is one of the longest-running cartoons in Ovi and we are pleased to announce that there is no end in sight. The story is set on a farm with an arrogant rooster, a sycophant pig, a wiseass dog and an intelligent tortoise among the characters.

‘Life Undercover’ has also enjoyed a lengthy life within Ovi and has built a cult following among some of our regular readers. The strip takes a glimpse into the life of one rather lazy man and his conversations with a female friend. They discuss and muse philosophical and religious questions from the comfort of their warm bed. Maybe one day they will get an answer, but we doubt it.

‘2nd Opinion’ is the third cartoon collaboration between Thanos and Asa in which they have created a character devoid of redeeming features. He is the most homophobic, racist, sexist, prejudiced, arrogant, self-centred, egotistical son of bitch you will ever encounter…we hope!

‘Dino & Anty’ is a story of an unlikely friendship between Dino, a vegetarian virgin dinosaur, and Anty, a carnivorous nymphomaniac ant. Yes, you did read that right!

‘The Worms’ is the cartoon commonly associated with Thanos. The sketches are created in both English and Greek, and follow the internal dynamics of a family of worms – the guys can’t help but feel sympathy for the father.

‘Foreign Bird in Helsinki’ obviously has the Finnish twist and is inspired through Thanos’ own experiences living in Helsinki. However, how his experiences inspired him to draw a big yellow bird that wears a blue and white rubber ring is something best avoided.

‘Photoville’ is the latest addition to the Cartoon section and it has a different style to the others with its use of photography rather than freehand drawing. We suggest you take a look and make your own mind up. ‘R.I.P., including the Dracula’ takes two overly chatty corpses six-feet-under, who have an outspoken opinion on contemporary events.

The Cartoon section features many more sketches and series that you will have to explore for yourself. Please bookmark your favourite cartons and return to see if any new additions have appeared or if any new cartoonists have joined the team.

The Ovi cartoonery is indeed a rich fare on which to feast. How about adding a bit of salt and making it even richer by supplying a theist’s corner where the lady in bed offers cogent answers and counter questions to her partner in bed while showing her lovely feet and thrilling the foot fetishists among the readers. The poet Yetushenko when asked at the University of Puerto Rico where he had learned such fluent Spanish answered that he had learned it from his many Latin American girl-friends. Indeed, there are many things that can be learned in bed, even philosophy and poetry. Churchill used to work in bed for he did not believe that one ought to sit when one could lie down. Musings, for all their worth!
