Hello,
Many of you may have an idea of what you can write for Ovi, but we also are interested in contributions on any of the following events that will be taking place throughout September 2006. You can write purely about the subject or use it as an intro to something else…it is up to you. Please save this mail for reference throughout the month.
EVENTS 14-24 September Helsinki International Film Festival - Love & Anarchy The Helsinki International Film Festival includes sections on the Best of Young European Cinema, Modern Asian Cinema, American Independents, Contemporary World Cinema, Gay and Lesbian selections, Fantasy Films, Modern Documentary and Animation. Under the title of Love & Anarchy, it also offers the bizarre, the strange and the controversial.
# September 17 - Swedish general election, 2006: Sweden holds elections for the Riksdag.
# September 19-September 20 - 2006 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, Singapore
# September 20 - Election for President of Liberal Democratic Party in Japan, determining the successor of Junichiro Koizumi, not only as President of LDP, but also as Prime Minister of Japan.
# September 26 - Scheduled reopening date of the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, LA after repairs to the Superdome from damages sustained during Hurricane Katrina.
September 29 - Irish festival in Finland begins.

ANNIVERSARIES 50 years since: World water speed record smashed (Sept 17th) A 48-year-old solicitor from Manchester breaks the one-hour world water speed record in his motorboat, Miss Windermere III.
45 years since: 1961: UN Secretary General killed in air crash (Sept 18th) The body of UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold is identified among the wreckage of a plane which crashed last night outside the Northern Rhodesian town of Ndola.
30 years since: 1976: White rule in Rhodesia to end (Sept 24) The Rhodesian Government agrees to introduce black majority rule to the country within two years.
10 years since: 1996: Taleban gains threaten Kabul (Sept 25) Opposition fighters in Afghanistan reach the eastern suburbs of Kabul and are poised to take control of the country's capital.
35 years since: 1971: Foreign Office names Soviet superspy (Sept 30) The British Government names Oleg Lyalin as the Soviet defector who last week exposed dozens of Russians alleged to be spying in the UK.
