No, your eyes are not deceiving you. No, you are not dreaming. No, this is not a hallucinogenic side-effect of your medication. Ovi Magazine really is eight-years-old and I really am contributing to the celebrations. I know, I know!

It has been far too long since I last created a New Document in Word to write a few lines for you to enjoy and I can only apologise. Has absence really made the heart grow fonder? Actually, there are so many new contributors that I expect some of you are wondering just who is this young upstart.

I was there at the birth of Ovi. I helped Thanos through the breathing exercises, mopped his brow and held his hand (figuratively) during that final push that brought this curious little website to your screens.

Curious because Ovi quickly took on a life of its own. It became a force unto itself, growing into a platform that not only encouraged the exchange of ideas but a platform that captured the imagination of each new visitor.

Words struggle to express the pride it gives me when a new contributor eagerly joins our cause, be it for the love of sharing an opinion, for the love of creation, or for the pleasure of being a part of something larger than the individual.

Take a breath! If this were a song, this would be the rousing chorus with a male voice choir backed by a full orchestra and some almighty bass. I can get slightly carried away when discussing my orange child.

Looking at my diary beside me, Week 51 is filled with end-of-term events for my children, my own birthday, a flight to England, Ovi's 8th and even the amusing Mayan Apocalypse gets a mention. However, only the 'OVI 8' is able to trigger certain emotions, memories and the overwhelming need to call my best friend.

Thanos, I could use this next paragraph to proclaim our bromance to the watching world but there's no need. You know. December 20 is our anniversary, our eighth, and I am yet to receive flowers from you. Yes, even guys like receiving a bouquet from time to time!

2012 was quite a year… hell, let's throw in the past eight, too… yet through it all there has always been Ovi, either prominently dominating my life of quietly loitering in the shadows of my life. For that I am grateful and I know that many of you are too.

Let's raise a glass to Ovi Magazine and toast the next eight years.

Cheers.
