Ovi's philosophy

For the last twenty days we try to improve the Ovi magazine at every single chance. We have been adding new sections and we are planning to add many more. We have tried to give you a taste of what is to follow. Most of all, we tried to show you that our slogan ‘we cover every issue!’ is not a marketing trick, but is exactly how we feel, with a variety of opinions and authors from all around the world.

I have chosen very carefully the word ‘feel’ because it represents exactly what we are doing. We feel love for what we are doing, for us it is not another chance to make money, or another way to boost our ego, something we have seen more than often in our line of work. It's our feeling that old style opinionated magazines have disappeared under the pressure of heavy advertisement and the involvement of people that have nothing to do with the subject.

Over the last few years we have often met, in our professional life, people who had only one motivation when they created a magazine, this is a clever idea and we can make money. This is definitely not Ovi magazine's philosophy.

After nearly three years we proved that our motivation is only our will to prove that a magazine that covers all kind of opinions can happen. We want to prove that to write a column doesn’t mean copy-paste from the internet because that is not an opinion but a mixture of facts which occasionally doesn’t make sense.

In the last editorial of the Ovi magazine we emphasized that our environmental worries don’t stop at printing a magazine with the recycling logo printed somewhere. We chose to go online and not litter the environment. Even more, our brains are part of this environment and we took a stand, we give a choice, if you don’t like us you just press the back button, you don’t need to add another free magazine to an already littered city.

Adding adverts to our magazine was a big step for us and that’s why we are taking it step by step. First of all, we want advertisers to respect the magazine and its attitude. We want to fund the project and we have plans for the Ovi magazine but, just like we did for so long, we are going to continue and we are not going to compromise in the name of being commercial.

The practice of writing an article just because we want to take an advert is unknown to us and we consider it embarrassing for any magazine. Actually, we think that a magazine that follows this practice is fooling its readers and, since we are readers our selves, we don’t like it.

When we write an iKritic in Ovi magazine about a book we have read the book and when we talk about a film we have seen the film. We are not doing copy-paste with somebody else’s work, watching the film on fast-forward or putting the press release hoping that the publisher of the book or the production company of the film will be happy with the ass licking and give us an advert. Our general attitude is that we write about something we like and we share this feeling with others hoping that they can join this feeling.

Gradually more sections of the magazine will become active and we are going to add some new ones. We have some surprises as well, and always in our unique style. We hope you have found the new Ovi daily magazine interesting and we are open to all opinion and constructive criticism. We have already received feedback and we want more since we consider all our readers a part of the Ovi project.

We are very happy with your participation in the comments of every article and we hope this will be a motivation for further conversation in the forum. Please don’t forget that you are as much a part of the Ovi magazine as the editorial team and its contributors.

Thank you very much

Thanos Kalamidas
