Silence on the hairwaves

Hairdressers in Spain's north-eastern region of Catalonia have launched a campaign to avoid paying tax for playing the radio in their salons. Hundreds of salons in Barcelona have put up posters asking customers to bring their own iPods and MP3 players. The campaign is being led by Fedcat, the Catalan hairdressers' association. It opposes the monthly fee of up to 12 euros (£10, $16) imposed by Spain's General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE) for the music rights.

I wonder what will now be on the playlist: Haircut 100? Scissor Sisters? Shampoo? Fatboy Trim? I'll stop now...

Drug running bullfighter arrested

A bullfighter and a banderillero are among 15 people arrested in Sevilla for drug trafficking. Seven Spaniards and eight Latin Americans were detained in a police operation codenamed ‘Rodeo’ which has also led to the seizure of 220 kilos of cocaine brought into the country from Argentina. The bullfighter has been named by the Guardia Civil with the initials G.R.S. Police started their investigations in the case in January last year, when they became suspicious that several people in the bullfighting world could be using the National Fiesta as a cover for the movement of drugs.

This is one case of the bullfighter becoming the rodeo clown...

White for Ferrari

Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari this new Formula One season will have a white tail fin. It’s all down to the Banco Santander with the white fin allowing for the bank’s red logo and typeface to shine. The Spanish bank is investing 40 million € a year on the sponsorship. Fernando Alonso will show his F281 car to the public for the first time at the Cheste circuit in Valencia on February 1.

I thought the white Finn was either Kimi Räikkönen or Heikki Kovalainen...
