A fugitive in Facebook trap

bizarre01_01A man on the run, wanted for fraud by US authorities, inadvertently revealed where he was hiding through a series of extravagant Facebook updates. Cameroon-born Maxi Sopo's messages made it clear he was living the high life in the Mexican resort of Cancun. He also added a former US justice department official to his friend list that ended up helping to track him down.

US officials say Mr Sopo and an associate falsely obtained more than $200,000 in credit from banks.
In recent status updates Mr Sopo said he was "loving it", described himself as "living in paradise" and said he was "just here to have fun".  "He was making posts about how beautiful life is and how he was having a good time with his buddies," said Assistant US Attorney Michael Scoville. "He was definitely not living the way we wanted him to be living, given the charges he was facing," he added.  The 26-year-old, who is currently in custody in Mexico City, initially sold roses in Seattle nightclubs after arriving in the US in 2003. He then allegedly moved on to bank fraud.

Status …behind bars!

Injured in surprise elk attack

A woman in western Sweden is recovering after being bowled over by an elk early on Wednesday morning while she was out walking her dog. “It ran right at me,” Monica Engström said. “I didn’t have time to realize what was going on, it just came roaring across abizarre02_400nd kicked me down with its hind legs.” Engström was out for an early morning stroll with her dog Svennis in a residential area of Utby on the outskirts of Gothenburg.

As Engström was waiting for Svennis to finish his business in the back yard of her sister’s house, the aggressive elk suddenly emerged from the early-morning darkness and went on the attack. “I was so scared I woke up the entire neighbourhood; they probably thought it was some sort of assault. And it was, except by an elk,” she added.

Following the incident, Engström suffered from a number of aches and pains, and remained concerned about a possible concussion due to her violent fall, but was otherwise in good spirits. "I fell backwards and got a real kick to the head.”It was like getting hit by a train or a tram," she said. Nevertheless, she remains disturbed by the elk’s hostile behaviour, and plans to be more cautious in the future. “I’m not going outside in the morning, that’s for sure, if you ask me, wild animals should stay in the woods.”

Perhaps humans should stop building houses on elks’ space!

Sex? What?

Eugene Robinson said sex was the last thing on his mind as he drove the pretty young woman who had asked for a ride to her motel. "I was waiting for God to send me the one that's supposed to be my Christian wife," he said. "That's what it says in the Bible." Yet within minutes of taking the woman to a cheap motel in neighbouring Absecon, the 67-year-old Atlantic City Councilman and Baptist minister was receiving oral sex.

"I was so surprised," he testified in an Atlantic County courtroom. "I, um, hadn't really had any sexual activity since '89. I thought that, naively, we were going to just pet." He didn't know that the woman was a prostitute hired by his political rivals to lure him into a sex sting, and that a camera hidden in a clock radio near the bed was recording the tryst. Three bizarre03_400men are on trial for conspiracy, criminal coercion and invasion of privacy in the videotaping case, which prosecutors allege was intended to ruin Robinson politically and personally for switching political allegiances from former Council President Craig Callaway, who had just admitted taking bribes and was on his way to prison.

Two of Callaway's brothers, Ronald and David, and friend Floyd Tally are accused of helping carry out the blackmail plot, which flopped when Robinson refused to resign and contacted authorities instead. During Robinson's testimony, a portrait emerged of a lonely old man suddenly faced with the prospect of intimacy after years without. After their encounter, Robinson said, he went back to the motel about an hour later, hoping the woman was still there.

"I was all jammed up with sexual feeling because I hadn't had sex since 1989," he testified. "That's a long time." But the woman, identified as Kristyn Haino, was long gone. She testified Tuesday that some of the defendants drove her around Atlantic City in November 2006, looking for Robinson, and promised her $200 to $300 to lure him to the motel and have sex, provided she got him to hand her money. She approached him outside a 7-11 saying she needed a ride to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa on the other side of the city where her friends were. Robinson said at first he resisted because he had to meet a friend.

"At first I kept saying, `No, no, no' "Robinson testified.”But then I thought, `If you send a tourist away angry, they'll tell people not to come to Atlantic City. I don't think she would have been able to convince me if I wasn't so tired." Robinson said Haino asked him for money to buy sodas, and he handed her a dollar, and exchange captured on the videotape that was designed to make it look like he was paying her for sex. He testified he had no idea the woman was a prostitute or that their activity was anything but consensual sex among adults.

So, did he sin or not?

The piece on this Robinson idiot reminds me of a number of politicians in America who have stated in the media that they have spoken to God.There is no law in America that forbids you to say such things...
