The Bulgarian church’s wealth
The Sixth Church Convention has made the decision that the Bulgarian Church cannot sell, mortgage or exchange church properties as stated before Darik radio by the Holy Synod spokesperson Archpriest Angel Angelov. Angelov further said that the Convention has also approved the proposal that the Church begins to regularly provide the salaries of all priests, according to the established budget, adding that several eparchies have consistently being late in paying the salaries.
The third day of the Sixth National Church Convention held in the Rila Monastery for the second time this year. The first session took place in May 2008. Bulgarian Patriarch Maxim, bishops of the Bulgarian Orthodox church and 120 delegates are taking part in the Convention. The main topic of discussion is the new code determining the rights of the Holy Synod, including the right bestowed only on bishops to prepare the Holy oil, the right to canonize saints, and the Church candle, which is to bear the symbol of the respective church and can be made only in a facility holding a license issued by the Holy Synod. Angelov further said that the Convention's agenda was quite extensive and the delegates were taking their time in order to create a contemporary and lasting Church code. "The most important is the purity of the Faith and of the Orthodox teaching, the Service's rightness and authenticity," the Archpriest concluded.
The truth internationally is that churches hold a lot of wealth and not much faith!

76th in world’s competitive
Bulgaria has moved three rankings ahead in the Global Competitiveness Report 2008-2009, released Wednesday by the World Economic Forum, featuring a total of 134 global economies. The country has moved from the 79th to the 76th position, but the report notes that Bulgaria has the most unfavorable ranking compared with all other countries members of the European Union. Romania has ranked behind Bulgaria for several years in a row, but now has moved from 74th to 68th position. Croatia (61) and Monte Negro (65) are also ahead of Bulgaria.
Despite the financial crisis, the United States tops the overall ranking; Switzerland is in second position followed by Denmark, Sweden and Singapore. European economies continue to prevail in the top 10 with Finland, Germany and the Netherlands following suit. The United Kingdom, while remaining very competitive, has dropped by three places and out of the top 10, mainly attributable to a weakening of its financial markets. China continues to lead the way among large developing economies, improving by four places this year. Several other Asian economies perform strongly with Japan, Hong Kong SAR, Republic of Korea and Taiwan. In Latin America, Chile is the highest ranked country, followed by Panama, Costa Rica and Mexico.
Definitely a good sign for a country that lived in the dark times a few years ago!

Byzantine mosaics
A team of Bulgarian archaeologists discovered Wednesday unique mosaics from Byzantine times during excavation works in the town of Kyustendil. The beautiful findings, which are drawn mainly with geometrical figures, once tiled the floors of official halls in a Byzantine private house, the experts reported.
"The names of the home's owners are written on the mosaics and it is the first time when such artifacts have been discovered in Bulgaria," the chief archaeologist Rumen Spasov explained. "The names we could read are Diofanes and Diogenia, who probably were among the riches people at the time," he added.
History is a characteristic of the Balkans.
