When you make a mistake once it could be ignorance, but when you do it twice it can be stupidity and it seems that Mr. Jose Barroso, the president of the EU, champions the sport - he manages so well that it makes me think that even Tony Blair would make a better president. A few months ago Mr. Barroso invited the Africa’s caricature of Hitler, Robert Mugabe as an equal to the EU-Africa summit and if you remember I wrote a long article asking him how he dared do something like that, but last week's invitation to Mugabe for the food summit provocatively crossed the line and made me sure that Mr. Barroso’s stupidity is dangerous and he had better go home as soon as possible.
Mugabe, this monster that destroys Zimbabwe, has been invited twice in the last year to the continent that is supposed to be the fiduciary of democracy and human rights internationally, giving him legitimacy and making him equal to people who fought all that Mugabe represents. With this invitation Barroso and the other joke, Solana gave Mugabe everything he needed to turn today and say to the Zimbabwe people that if they don’t vote for him they will starve!
The problem is that he was not joking. The man has stopped the opposition leader from exercising his basic democratic right to campaign, the people of Zimbabwe listen only to Mugabe's screaming at the television, the radio and the controlled legal newspapers. And these people are poor, very poor. The majority of the population can hardly bring the basics to the family table. They will not survive without the help that comes from abroad, call it UN, call it international aid, call it NGOs, call it whatever you want, the people of Zimbabwe will not survive without this help. And now take a wild guess as to who is controlling this help, who is in charge of the distributing, who is responsible that all this aid that starts from Europe and America will arrive as a plate of rice on the table of the starving desperate Zimbabweans. You said Mugabe? I say, Barroso’s friend! Guess who forbid all the aid organizations and NGOs to work in Zimbabwe!
In Greece we have a saying, tell me your friends to tell you who you are, and Mr. Barroso’s friends tell me a lot lately. First of all, in the very beginning of his term he had this bright idea of doing summits like a private club inviting only the …powerful of Europe and the George W. Bush and he dared called that EU meeting. After the reaction of the European countries he called it EU-USA summit, then he mixed up a bit new Europe and old Europe – the right word is he screwed up but it doesn’t matter for now, – then he screwed up with the oil and the Middle East European policy – screw up in this case is a kind word – and now he became pals with Mugabe! I’m sure he’s afraid of the end of his European career because I bet he’s not very welcome back home either!
By the way, did Mr. Barroso do anything for what Mugabe did with terrorising the EU ambassadors? Surprisingly even George W. Bush did something. The big man got angry, hit the table with his cowboy hat and ordered his ambassadors and foreign office to go after Mugabe; Barroso from his side packed his suitcase and got ready for Beijing, the Olympics start soon! In addition, what does Mr. Barroso think about child labour or better child slavery? What does he think about the Chinese record in human rights, the Tibet issue, and the death penalty. Think? You need something in your head to think and I’m afraid been pals with Mugabe left Mr. Barroso with only echo in his skull!
As I said in the beginning the first time Mr. Barroso invited Mugabe in Europe and welcomed him as a leader of a democratic country could be called ignorance, could be blamed in an assistant or a clerk but the second time especially after all those things on the news, all the action of the Africa’s caricature Hitler and all the things said it’s just stupid and because Europe and the European people have tradition in democracy and respect in human rights Mr. Barroso should resign because he’s becoming a dangerous idiot.
