Happy anniversary, Daily Ovi team! When it is time to celebrate, it is time to have a toast, blow the online candle gently, cut the cake into slices (bigger one for me) and examine the influence of Ovi’s horoscope until the end of the year.

Time has gone by so fast… it seems like it was yesterday that I found an online “dark” edition where three high cholesterol, disturbing sense of humor guys, living in a similarly disturbing cold and quiet northern country decided to publish their works and defy English and non-English readers, writers, drawers, speakers and photographers to join their journey. The brave ones first, of course.

In the beginning, there was the Verb “To Do”… And its conjugation allowed many different, interesting, appealing things to happen, by the hands of distinct goodwill, ironic, sarcastic, kind, extravagant, cattish, innovative, discreet, creative, but assuredly generous people. And so “the door” was daily open for one whole year. It beats many 18th century brothels.

Daily Ovi has good taste: first of all, because it was born the same month I was – I just hope it didn’t take so long to be conceived. Well, anyway, even if it did, the result was also charming. No one noticed that “also”, I believe… As a curiosity, here’s Ovi’s Virgo horoscope for what is still left of this year:

Overview: Maintaining positive friendships and close personal relationships is a high priority for practical Virgo. You share your opinions openly and honestly. Surrounded by inspiring artistic people, you will have a desire to express your own creativity. Variety and versatility give you the urge to take up many different skills. You'll keenly observe the world around you and uniquely express it through creative avenues.

Everything your awareness touches becomes a field for your intellectual attainment. Your desire to express your artistry could expand into exhibiting your work at public art events. Culture and the theatre will give you hours of relaxation. Your awareness of connectivity impacts those in your circles and opens them to sharing common goals and objectives.

Career: You love being involved in new projects. You are very energetic and love ways that naturally and creatively express who you are. New opportunities arise for you to work in the public arena, and you'll enjoy serving the best interest of your community. Your need to be connected and useful in society will be satisfied in this kind of work.

The opportunity to have a public career will open up for you if you choose to go through that door… This is a time when you will receive the credit you deserve and the prestige you desire. You have an unwavering ability to see the larger picture as well as the importance of details. When you follow your gut feelings, you are likely to be successful financially. Resources are at your fingertips…

Later in the year, make sure to take more time for walking in nature, gardening, relaxing in health spas -- places where you can freely connect with your deepest self. Your spontaneous and impulsive nature makes for a very physically active year. You love sports, dancing and other physical activities, which will keep you feeling young and vibrant.” Humm... Should we follow the advice? I’m a Libra, still I’m available for the spa.

Long live daily Ovi and its extraordinary, humble editors and collaborators… Let’s not be discouraged by long winters with brown snow to our knees and days of complete darkness outside, nor by the occasional drunkards who step in our way, nor the incidental twinges of envy towards other collaborators writing from naturally sun-illuminated places… Let the door be open once again, for a feast of creativity rays to flow in.

What the last sentence and the cover picture have in common is that wonderfully suggestive symbol of the door that opens to the rays of the sun outside (the creative muse)flooding the place from the outside. I like to think that the door has no outside knob; it can only be opened from the inside (the readers); which is to say that a magazine is only as good as the free-flowing creativity of its editors, writers and readers as expressed in their comments and debates on points of view.

I discovered Ovi some three months ago. What I found immediately attractive about it was its respect for and encouragment of free speech, its courage in exploring novel paths and issues, its promotion of fresh ideas; all vital to any publication aiming at excellence; for indeed a publication that offers brilliant articles that remain unexamined and undiscussed is only clever by half.

To celebrate this awareness here is some delicious wine to toast with: an appropriate poem by Rumi:

"I have lived on the lip
of insanity
knocking on the door.

It opens.

I have been knocking from the inside."

It's a little too early for wine here, but I'll keep it chilled for later. Thanks.

Not so fast! It was only meant metaphorically as the poet Charles Boudelaire meant it when he wrote: be drunk all the time, whether with wine, poetry or virtue, as you wish, but be drunk all the time. Wine is a poor substitute for enhancing awareness, in fact as Shakespeare put it, it increases the desire but takes away the potency. So the second or third options are preferable, without puritanically prohibiting the first.
