A little bit of humor for a change. In my research I found that to be happy you need four things: you need a stable emotional life, a stable personal life, an organized life and an ability to execute your day to day tasks.

ken01_400_02I used to moan when Ken and Barbie didn’t want to talk to me. You know Ken and Barbie. That perfect couple or circle of friends who always seems to be laughing out loud so you can hear them and are desperate to join them. Ken and Barbie can be a couple, or a group of friends who like to calls themselves the G7 or S Club 9 or something. There’s always together and always seem to be having fun.

Don’t worry if Ken and Barbie reject you. Happy people don’t reject people, they welcome people. Happy countries don’t ban citizens of certain countries from entry, they welcome as many people as they can, as long as those people keep them safe. Happy countries don’t have complex immigration procedures, they make it clear what it is you need to survive and thrive in their country.

So each time I get a rejection letter for a job, I think to myself, Ken and Barbie must be depressed. I don’t have an oversized ego, but I think I have a competitive resume. So Ken and Barbie didn’t invite me to their potluck party and I only found out later. Turns out Ken and Barbie are depressed.

So how can Ken and Barbie find happiness? Drop the spiffiness, wear casual clothes, read more books (not comic books) and be open to new people and ideas. Be comfortable around people and focus on what you know rather than what you look like.

To conclude, I have a rule. If Ken and Barbie hire people or hang out with people based on how those people look or on appearances, they will end up being depressed at some point. You know how some people can age fast. If people hang out with me based on knowledge and intellect rather than on looks, I’m not saying they will be fully happy, at least they can be comfortable with other people. Knowledge is power so they say.

P.S. The last few years I found out a lot of my Ken and Barbie role models were actually depressed. I was depressed for a while, I snapped out of it when I stopped focusing on how I looked and started focusing on what I know. Yes I have a middle eastern-sounding name and weird teeth, but I have read books like the Bible and the Talmud cover to cover. That means I don’t need to spend a fortune on braces. Ha!

And then there is Aristotle treatise on eudemonia, or happiness. I wonder if Ken and Barbie have ever bothered to peruse it.
