The Darkened Night

The puppeteer's
Fingers flashed
Dashing, shadows
Casting against
The wall,dancing
Like haunted
Shades.

img_0822_it_was_written_in_the_stars_400The hunted
Game darting
In howling winds
As the flames
Licked the clay
Like liquid lava.

The flickering lights
Dancing on cracks,
Curling paint playing
Against the wall like
A cast of actors
Arranged in a
Circle like on
Some ancient
Stage or in
A morality
Play.

As the light
Swung low
And slow;
Aromas of
Sage,cedar
And lavender
Smudge sticks
Lacing the dimly
Lit room.

Huddling eyes
Fixed around
The crackling flames
Like dark burning coals;
Slow whispers floating
Over cubes of bread
And red wine
And salty brine.

The puppeteer's
Fingers flashing,
Dashing, shadows
Casting against
The wall,dancing
Like haunted
Shades.

The flavours
Of chestnuts,
And walnuts
Laced with
Honey and
Cinnamon
Seeped into
Their tastebuds
And the pores of
Their skin.

As their
Thoughts
Reflected against
The cracks and
Curling paint;
The rise and fall
Of empires,the
Damnation of the
Souls and the
Falling of the
Dow.

The
Sleek prows
Ploughing
Against their
Half-closed
Eyelids like
A projector
Screen as the
Warm smokey
Room muffled
Them in its
Comforting
Embrace.

The flames
Died down,
And the shadows
Slowly disappeared
As they sank backwards
Into their pillows falling
Into their dreams like
Like soft clouds.

To be embraced
By the soft fingers
Of Hypnos, the God
Of sleep who rose
From beyond the gates
Of the rising sun and into
The darkened night
With his brothers
Dream and Death.

They slept
And dreamed
Of life and death;
For a new day
Waited them;
Another day
Of adventures
And travails.

For they
Found solace
In sleep equally
As they had in
Life.
