New Golden Age

img_1254_400Cry me a river,
Lull me to sleep,
Cry me a river,
Send me down deep;
Release me my love.

Like quick flying shafts
Flung from the quiver,
By magical crafts.

Among flowers
And bees, spread
Out under trees,
A soft rhyming sleep,
Among peaks and swells;
And ringing gold bells.

Cry me a river,
Lull me to sleep,
Cry me a river,
Send me down deep;
Release me my love,
An eternal embrace.

A shimmering bay,
A glimmering sway;
My soul cast away
Like a ship in the deep,
A soft rhyming sleep.

Cry me a river,
Lull me to sleep,
Cry me a river,
Send me down deep;
Release me my love,
Our new golden age.

The above is redolent to my mind of the Song of Songs which also expresses poetically in the Old Testament the love of God for the human soul; a God who is not capricious and vengeful as the Olympian gods, but providential and caring. The same is expressed by most of the poetical psalms found in the Bible. Food fro thought!

While I appreciate the thoughts Emmanuel , you have missed the mark completely and are incorrect , for that was not my intention. When I wrote this poem,I referred completely to the beautiful archetypes of the Olympian gods which gives an even balance to the expression of all facets of the human soul and psyche as compared the one dimensional shallow character of Old Testament monotheism.

In my poem I symbolically refer to Aphrodite,Demeter,Pan and Charon; a beautiful balance as compared to the 'eye-for-eye', patriarchal and antiquated belief system of Jewish mythological cosmology ......food for thought!
