Dancing in the Dark

Descending
On balustrades
And whirling stairs,
The city soaked
Through windows
Casting light on
Wisps of golden
Curling hair.

img_1463_1_the_buds_of_may_400That bathed
Her under the
Blinking stars
And street lamps;
Unfurling glares
Glancing through
Rolling green fog
That choked the
Throat of the
Stony city
Streets like
A killer.

The flashing
Blades and
Playing Cards,
The pianola
Notes and
Whisky jars
On velvet
Bars.

Then
The chiming
Of the clock,
Tick-tock:
On blackened
Rocks;the
Linen sailcloths
Flapping on
Jagged
Blocks.

The
Shrieking
Screams of
Bloodied
Dreams,
Dancing
With the
Devil in
The dark.

The sliding
Fingers,
The gliding
Fingers.

Then
The chiming
Of the clock,
Tick-tock:
The flashing
Blades,and
Neighing
Mares.

The way she
Swayed on
Whirling stairs
And balustrades;
The light soaking
Her golden
Curling hair.

Blackened feet
On killer streets:
Now she haunts
Stark city beats;
Her shadow
Dancing in
The dark.
