The Martyr

Under the
Midnight
Shrieks,the
World sleeps
Gently tonight.

The silence
Broken by
The fluttering
Of the soft
Silver threads
Of the moonlight
Flapping in the
Breeze;floating,
Falling gently on
The midnight
Sea.

img_1355_400The
Butterflies
Flutter in
Their sleep.

As the
Hungry
Baby
Clutches
At its
Mother's
Breast
In the
Deserts
Of Darfur.

While the
Melancholy
Homeless
Walk under
Shadows
In grimy
City streets.

The four
Horsemen
Riding in
The east:
Scything
Swathes
Through
The world
With their
Famine
And lust.

Whilst
I,curled
Up on
The leather
couch,dust
Particles
Collecting
In the
Lamplight;
Clutch a
Glass of
Red wine.

Lulled to
Sleep by
The flickering
Images on
Television.

The
Crying
Babies,
The dying
Babies.

The world
Sleeps gently
Tonight,as
The four
Horsemen
Gallop
In the
East.

As the
Mother of
Darfur lies
Sleepless,
With clutching
Baby at her
Breast in
The morning
Desert Light.

While she
Considers
The sun,
And asks
If we'll ever
Have any
Martyrs
For peace
And love;
For life
And love.
